Of all the nicknames Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder may dream up, there’s only one that seems likely to stick.

“Loudmouth.”

Those are the words used most often by fans and critics in DC when confronted with Snyder’s tendencies to infuse the Redskins’ moniker and logo with an almost carnival atmosphere.

It’s no surprise, then, that Mike McCarthy, the coach of the Super Bowl-winning Green Bay Packers, has come under fire for his post-game comments following Washington’s “lame duck” season opener last week against the Chicago Bears.

“I thought it was a boring game,” he said. “I thought everyone was patting each other on the back for losing. No one was really beating the drum.”

McCarthy tried to prove the point by telling NFL Network on Sunday that he didn’t think the “bizarre” regular season matchup at Soldier Field was the “best idea ever.”

Yet, the criticism continued to mount and he felt the need to set the record straight on Monday.

“I’m not taking responsibility for the team’s performance and for this comment, which was not the Green Bay Packers team coming to Soldier Field,” McCarthy said at his press conference.

“This was a San Francisco 49ers team. I believe they were the first time I had ever been in the NFL. There’s no way I could have gone to one of those games and noticed all the history that had gone on there.

“I took full responsibility for my comments.”

McCarthy said he just wanted to clarify that the Redskins don’t affect the Seattle Seahawks. He went on to address a number of other subjects during the media availability.

McCarthy once again addressed the constant references to the NFC North rival Packers’ old helmet logo.

He can’t see why Redskins fans or media would feel any difference.
